This was originally written about a specific movie, but I later decided to leave it open. Everyone has seen one or two movies that they feel this way about, and I would rather it be about all those movies than one specific title. In my case, the inspiration came from one I actually do own, because the studio sent me a copy to review. I have yet to make anyone else watch it.

Speaking of my reviewing days, now is as good a time as any to mention my career as a film critic. Although I reviewed movies for my high school paper, most of Jack is drawn from my experiences working as a freelance critic for a Denver arts and entertainment magazine in college. I worked there for a little more than a year before moving to San Diego. I didn't work as a critic professionally after that, but I still see more movies than is probably good for me (it's all research for the comic, I swear).
